Coventry made the long trip to Scotland to face an Edinburgh team who have had the upper hand over them on home ice this season with two wins out of two.

Edinburgh took a two goal lead and it looked as though they were going to keep their hoodoo over Coventry. But the visitors hit back to level things and then go in front before a goal 29 seconds from the end from the hosts sent the game into overtime.

With just over a minute gone in overtime Greg Owen got the winner and at the same time completed his second hat trick of the season.

The home side opened the scoring as Mark Garside (11th) struck home at 5.58. They then doubled their lead with a shorthanded strike from Jeff Hutchins (21st) at 14.18. Coventry pulled one back at 16.17 with a goal from Greg Owen (15th) to make it a one goal game at the end of the first session.

Coventry were back on level terms as Greg Owen (16th) netted with his second of the game at 27.14. Just after this Edinburgh had a great chance to regain their lead as they went on a 5 on 3 powerplay but Coventry killed off both penalties. The game never really got a chance to flow in the second period as there was a spate of minor penalties to both teams.

Both teams were creating chances in the third period but neither of them could get the go ahead goal. Then at 56.14 Luke Fulgham (40th) got that all important goal to put the Blaze in front for the first time. This looked like the game winner until Simon Lambert (25th) cancelled it out with a strike at 59.30.

Into overtime and it was Greg Owen (17th) with his hat trick marker that sealed the extra point for the league leaders as he hit home the game winner at 61.18.
